The Private Pilot License (PPL) is the foundation of nearly every flying goal — and the most popular way to start. At Los Angeles Flight School you'll earn your FAA Private Pilot certificate at Van Nuys Airport (KVNY) with one-on-one instruction, a modern fleet, and a transparent, fixed-price package built around the FAA 40-hour minimum.
What a Private Pilot License lets you do
With a PPL you can act as pilot in command of a single-engine airplane, carry passengers day or night, fly anywhere in the country, and share flight expenses. It's also the required first step toward an Instrument Rating, a Commercial certificate, and a career in the cockpit.
What's included in the Standard package
- Single-engine aircraft — 38 hours
- FAA full-motion simulator — 2 hours
- Dual instruction (aircraft & sim) — 30 hours
- Ground school & briefings — 3 hours
- Books & training materials — included
Total logged time: 40 hours. Prefer more built-in margin? Our Comprehensive package is built around the realistic 60-hour national average, and our Turbo Cirrus package trains you in a glass-cockpit SR22T.
Requirements
You can solo at 16 and earn your PPL at 17. You'll need an FAA medical certificate, basic English proficiency, and a passing score on the FAA knowledge test. See the full pilot license requirements.
Pricing & financing
The Standard Private Pilot package starts at $10,400, with flexible financing available. Not sure yet? A discovery flight is 100% credited toward your training.
