Every pilot certificate includes a written FAA knowledge test. It sounds intimidating, but with the right study plan it's very passable. Here's how our students at Los Angeles Flight School, Van Nuys (KVNY), knock it out.
The basics
- Format — multiple-choice, taken at a PSI testing center (several near Los Angeles).
- Passing score — 70%.
- When — most students take it partway through flight training, after ground school.

Pair a reputable test-prep course with our ground school, study a little every day, and take practice exams until you're consistently scoring in the high 80s. Your instructor will sign you off when you're ready.
