Los Angeles has several airports where you could learn to fly — but they're not equal for training. Here's how Van Nuys (KVNY) stacks up against Santa Monica and Burbank.
Van Nuys (KVNY)
A dedicated general aviation hub with two runways, excellent flight-training infrastructure, and busy-but-manageable towered traffic that builds sharp skills. It's where we're based, and it's purpose-built for training.
Santa Monica (KSMO)
Historically popular, but the airport has been drastically scaled back — a shorter runway and an uncertain future make it a weaker long-term choice for students.
Burbank (KBUR)
A busy commercial airport shared with airline traffic. It's less student-friendly, with airline-priority operations and higher complexity.
The verdict
For most Los Angeles students, Van Nuys wins on infrastructure, runway access, and training value. See our service area and drive times, or book a discovery flight. Call (818) 399-9905.
